The Veggie Tally 2013

After getting a late start to planting this season, we were quite excited to tally the numbers at the end of the year in order to discover how much we harvested. The foods we froze and canned were a combination of our garden and my mother's garden. We were so excited to be able to get our garden started this year as we missed last year's growing season due to the move and constant renovation on our current home.

Here's what we tallied:

  • Minowase radish 2.00 lbs
  • Scalloped Summer Squash 11.70 lbs
  • Snow peas 3.33 lbs
  • Tomatoes 2.39 lbs
  • Turnip 1.26 lbs
We also had a mix of lettuce, spinach, and sunflower seeds which were not weighed.
Red Cored Chantenay Carrots
We froze
  • 2 gallons green beans
  • 1 gallon black peas
  • 1/2 gallon bell peppers

We also canned 6 pints of squash relish, 7 pints and 11 quarts of dill pickles, 5 pints and 4 quarts of bread and butter pickles, 11 quarts of apple pie, and 5 pints salsa.
Sumter Cucumbers
It was quite a year for us after taking a break from gardening last year. We are so excited with what we were able to harvest and very surprised at the abundance of eggplant (Black Beauty variety) produced this year. The Mister is already planning a garden expansion and together, we are selecting varieties to plant next year. It won't be long before planting season is here! I can hardly wait!
