Weekend in New York: Day 1

Saturday we woke up to a flurry of snow. It was a nippy 38 degrees as our group of ladies ventured through the streets of New York. We gathered together to celebrate one of my dearest friend's birthday. Her husband had planned an elaborate Girls Only weekend. Our first stop was the beautiful Waldorf Astoria Hotel to drop off our bags. I had passed by this place on a previous trip to New York, but this was my first time inside this posh hotel. It was gorgeous hotel lobby and to think that a movie was filmed in this place and Hollywood stars walked the same stairs.

We took a dessert tour of Hell's Kitchen with Sugartooth Tours. It was a fun way to learn about New York and try a few treats in the city. Our first stop was Kee's Chocolates. This cute shop served handmade chocolates and macaroons. While there, we saw the staff coating the chocolate forms and had the chance to meet Ms. Kee herself! I sampled the Blood Orange Chocolate Truffle. At first bite, there was definitely the taste of chocolate and then the taste of the orange followed.
Our next stop was Cupcake CafĂ© where I sampled the Maple Walnut Cupcake. This little store resembled a narrow coffee shop that served cakes and cupcakes in the back of the store.
Our third stop (and my favorite!) was Little Pie Company where we sampled a slice of Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie. The layers of apple were sliced so thin and neatly stacked. It was delicious.
Our fourth stop was Poseidon Greek Bakery to sample rolled baklava which we were informed was easier to eat than traditional baklava.
Our fifth stop was Schmackary's cookie shop where I sampled the Key Lime Pie Cookie and had a bite of my friend's Green Tea Cookie. Yummy!
Our sixth and last stop was Donna Bell's Bake Shop where we sampled Lemon Bars, a Southern staple.
That evening we watched the fabulous Motown The Musical on Broadway. Our group was singing, tapping and bobbing our heads to the music that remains familiar to this day. We ended the evening with a nightcap and lots of laughter at the Bull & Bear. It was a great way to end the evening.

Follow along to see what excitement was had on Day 2 in New York City.
